Illustrious Lab & Studio ABI x Louis Aragon Primary School, France
The BLISS Learning Lab, developed by Illustrious Lab and Studio Abi, took a creative and transdisciplinary approach to sustainable fashion, merging hands-on design with real-world social and economic perspectives.
In this LLab, children became creators-gardeners, designing clothes and accessories that adapt and grow—just as they do! Through a series of interactive workshops, students explored the entire lifecycle of a garment, from raw material production to modularity and expansion, all with a focus on extending its lifespan.
A glimpse behind the scenes of the fashion industry was given during an exclusive visit to 19M – The House of Crafts of CHANEL. Furthermore, students reflected on IP questions such as: who owned the rights to the prototypes created collaboratively, how to protect these creations?
By designing garments with longevity in mind, students rethinked fashion’s impact and learned how creativity can drive sustainable change. A garden formed by all the children’s sketches of the creations at different stages of growth were printed on large organic fabric and displayed for the whole school in June 2025.
Designed as a replicable model, BLISS LLab went beyond a one-time experience—providing a framework and toolkit that can be implemented in other schools and classrooms. Led by textile education expert Anne-Charlotte Hartmann Bragard and designer Laetitia Barbu, this program nurtured young minds to rethink fashion’s future through curiosity, creativity, and sustainability.
| ILLUSTRIOUS LAB is a hybrid model – physical and virtual research laboratory - that brings together experts from diverse fields—incl. sociology, ethnography, education, and media—to collaborate on workshops, publications, and training while conducting explorations. It applies a Design Driven Innovation approach and explores the potential of co-creation to develop innovative solutions. | |
| Studio Abi offers original and tailor-made practical textile education to children (but also to adults). It offers workshops, publications and events, both fun and creative to develop self-confidence children, and promote their creativity. |
