Tight-Knit: Create a Sustainable Fashion Future

Veronika Persché Strickdesign x Höhere Bundeslehranstalt für Kunst und Gestaltung Herbststraße, Austria

In the Learning Lab Tight-Knit: Create a Sustainable Fashion Future, students from the Höhere Bundesleranstalt für Kunst und Gestaltung in Vienna (Austria) dive deep into the world of Knitting Technologies, Sustainability and Regional Craftsmanship.

By working together with the Clean Clothes Campaign Austria and the Vienna Textile Lab, students (aged 15-16) explored the Textile & Clothing industry from multiple perspectives. They learned about ethical production, sustainable dyeing methods using biotechnology, and the diverse career opportunities along  along the value chain of the sector.

The LLab went beyond theory by visiting local workshops and companies like Kitech & Schnittbogen and participating in hands-on workshops. From digital pattern design to knitting fabrics and intricate hand embroidery, they created their own fabric patches and textiles, blending tradition with innovation.

The results of the LLab  presented in a public exhibition at the school in June 2025, where students showcased their creations and spark discussions on sustainable fashion.
